Cheap treadmills are readily available. Don’t think you have to pay a fortune to get one of your own. In the past, when treadmills were moving out of the gyms and into private homes for the first time, this may have been true. Now, however, owning a treadmill is a possibility for nearly anyone. You just need to know where to look to get the cheapest prices.
One of the best places to find cheap treadmills is in the local classified ads. You can look either in the newspaper or on your local section of Craigslist for cheap, used treadmills at great prices. These aren’t necessarily junk machines, either. Sometimes, people have to get rid of perfectly good treadmills for a variety of reasons, such as moving, emergency cash, and upgrading to new models. This can be good news for you.
Second, go to the local thrift stores. Sometimes, people will donate used treadmills to thrift stores if they don’t want to have to bother with selling them. You can get excellent discounts on good machines at these stores, so check around town to see if you can find one you like.
You might also find a good deal on eBay. A lot of people today automatically check eBay before making a major purchase, to see if they can find it cheaper there. This famous online auction house has become famous for offering some of the lowest prices on just about anything in the world.
A lot of the treadmill brands you find online at places such as Ebay, are the same as those you will find at local retailers. the main difference is the price you will pay.
Cheap treadmill closeouts can also be found at your local discount department store. Sometimes, a particular model of treadmill is discontinued (this can be for a variety of reasons, usually due to an upgrade in technology on new models). The models that are left in stores will be marked down drastically in price. Call around, or go check in person at the discount department stores in your area to see if you can find a good deal.
It doesn’t matter what your fitness level is a treadmill can provide you with an excellent workout. Slow, intense, or interval, you will get a good indoor workout on a treamill.
Walking is an excellent form of exercise, with many important health benefits. You can walk in the comfort of your own home with a treadmill, without having to go outside and brave the wild world. Finding cheap treadmills isn’t hard, so get out there and start looking.

Unfortunately home exercise equipment is never cheap, which means it is really important to invest in the right machine. For effective weight loss, you need to find out which piece of equipment is best at helping to burn up those excess calories.
The two best selling pieces of exercise equipment are treadmills and elliptical trainers, but which one is actually best at burning the most calories? There is certainly a lot of argument with many people liking both pieces of equipment. However when it comes down to which is best for you to buy, there really is only one definitive answer.
The simple fact is that both machines can help burn the exact same number of calories, it just all depends on how you exercise with them, but working out on an elliptical can be just as effective as working out on a treadmill.
It is true that running on a treadmill can be more intensive, and can have a greater impact on your body’s muscles and joints. For this reason some people may find it very hard to run on a treadmill. By using an elliptical, you are still able to exercise and burn off the same number of calories, it’s just the exercise has a gentler impact on your body.
Running on a treadmill, at approximately 7 mph, would burn 783 calories if you were 150 pounds, and you ran for an hour. Using an elliptical trainer, you would burn 774 calories. But if you only walk on a treadmill at 3 mph, you would only burned 297 calories. That’s a big difference!
The number of calories your body burns on an elliptical really does all depend on how you use the machine and the approach you take to your workout. Some people prefer to exercise in a moderate, gentle way, whereas others charge in an give themselves a very intense workout.
You really need to ask yourself which machine you would prefer. Remember, you will only do you exercise if you are motivated and excited, if you find it boring to use a treadmill, you are not likely to keep up to your workout regime. Equally, if an elliptical does not inspire you, then you are better off with a treadmill.
If you simply love walking, jogging, or running, then you want to invest in a treadmill. It’s much better than walking on the surface of the street. But if burning calories is your main concern, you’ll need to make sure that you increase the speed and up the incline.
If you’ve experienced pain in your knees or ankles, or simply want to enjoy a low impact routine, then you’ll want to choose an elliptical instead. As you age, an elliptical trainer is much more forgiving on your body. Of course some exercise enthusiasts invest in both machines – an elliptical and a treadmill. This lets you mix up your workouts and avoid burnout completely.

When you use a treadmill for exercise equipment, you usually use it indoors. The machines allow the user to walk or run, while staying in one place. The word treadmill usually makes one think of a kind of mill operated by a human or an animal treading on a wheel to grind grain.
Most of the machines are run by electric motors and belt system. When the treadmill is switched on, the belt connected to the machine and motor rotates from top to rear which then allows the runner to run at an equal speed to the belt rotation. You can easily set and measure the speed of the run. (the rate at which the belt moves is the rate at which the runner moves.) The costlier, sturdier models are motor operated. A version that is more simple and light, and which costs less is available – it is more passive and only moves when you push the belt with your feet and will operate only to resist motion.
Treadmills History.
Treadmills were invented in 1875. The very first machine was an agricultural machine called the “level power” treadmill. They are made in different sizes to make room for animals of different sizes Dogs and sheep powered fanny mills and butter churners by running on small treadmills. The bigger ones were run by horses to power threshing machines.
The First Medical Treadmills.
In 1952 the earliest therapeutic system was conceived by UW cardiologist Robert Bruce, who was named the founder of exercise cardiology, together with UW staffer Wayne Quinton. Jointly, they developed the conventional stress test to identify and estimate heart and lung pathologies. Quinton later sold his interest to Stairmaster, who was subsequently bought by Nautilus.
The Tunturi treadmill.
Tunturi, began as a bicycle repair shop, and was founded in 1922. Because of their innovative W1 exercise bicycle, this company is often regarded as a pioneer in the physical fitness equipment business. As a manufacturer of exercise equipment for the fitness industry it has a reputation as one of the best in the industry and is based in Finland.
Aerobics, Inc.
Towards the end of 1960s Bill Staub noted that treadmills were pretty costly and were used mostly for medical testing. An affordable home treadmill was built by Staub who was trained medical engineer. He sent Dr. Cooper a prototype, it so impressed him that he managed to sell the first few hundred to his own referrals. In 1968, Dr. Coopers firm Aerobics, Inc., started the manufacture of PaceMaster. Since then, they have grown from making simple treadmills to making machines that feature computerized electronics and automated controls.
NASA Program.
The American space program used Skylab treadmills so that the astronauts were able to stay in good physical shape during their time in gravity free environments. The first treadmill used in outer space was initially a plate coated with Teflon on which an astronaut ran while tethered to bungee cords.
